I start to panic, remembering my best friend, the blood dripping from her head.

“Nadia?” I asked.

“She’s here too.” Mom says.

“I’m going to be sick.” I try not to cry. I’m scared, something isn’t right.

Mother grabs a basin, but it’s to late.

“I’m sorry.” I cry, unable to control the tears. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me.

I am reviewing a copy of Courageous Faith: A Lifelong Pursuit of Faith Over Fear through Our Daily Bread Publishing:

In Courageous Faith we are reminded that getting up after failing is the hardest when we least expect that failure. But when the Lord tells us to get up, we need to do just that.

Prologue:

November.10.1938

There’s broken glass everywhere. The world turned upside down when we were sleeping and now our streets are covered in shards of broken glass. Businesses were destroyed, synagogues, doctors, watchmakers, all manners of stores. The Nazi’s seem to have taken the greatest pleasure in the destruction of our Synagogues!

Naomi slept through it all, the glass shattering, the cries of Rabbi’s and business owners. Naomi sleeps like a rock, on nights like last night I wish I could too.

Men are taken away, some say to work camps.

Father has gone off, trying to get passes for us…

I grew in compassion

That summer

As I watched

My best friend struggle

With health issues

And an amputation

Not a year old.

She had just escaped

A violent relationship

Months before,

Abuse and pain

Still leaving her afraid.

I had learned to listen

Over long distance

Conversations

Late in the

Night

And letters

We could

Have bound

Together in

A book.

Now I wish

I had.

I learned what

It was to push through

The pain

And find

The stength to

Raise her young

Son.

I learned to

To have

Confidence

In my Abilities

As she read a story
