Thank You Mrs Q

Just like we have likely experienced a teacher who tried to break us down we’ve probably had teachers who have reached out to us, and given us a positive view of education, and one of those teachers was Mrs.Q, the first teacher who saw my writing and believed I had a gift, she’d even encourage me to write a story if I got bored during a lesson, and then grade me.

When I first went into Mrs.Q’s classroom, she had been teaching for years, but she wasn’t stuck in the old ways of doing things; she was so encouraging, and she met her students where they were, and I still look back on her encouragement to this day, because I wouldn’t have been able to share my stories without her encouragement.

Sadly a few months into that freshman class, Mrs. Q had to take a leave of absence absence due to some pretty serious health issues, but I’d take those lessons with me to this day, and the following couple of years I would see her on campus, where she would always ask about how my writing was progressing, how classes were going, and how I was doing in general, even as she dealt with her own struggles her compassionate nature was evident.

My thanks go out to you, Mrs. Q, for all the lessons you taught in class and outside of class, lessons I still carry with me more than thirty years after you taught them to me. You made me a better writer and a better person, so thanks!
