Chapter Four:

I’m named Aria, since my mom’s passion used to be music, and it still is, but not the same way. While her interests have grown and she’s blossomed, she still has a beautiful voice. My mom always tells me I have a beautiful singing voice, but I haven’t felt like singing lately.

“Aria, you were our gift, our beautiful song, but so much more. You brought us together, you started our family. I got pregnant with you just when I was about to give up on being a mom, just when God gave us you.” Mother reminded me often, but even more so now when she knew I was struggling or hurting.

Right now I feel more like a broken melody.

There was no way I could hide the way I was feeling, my Mother knew me too well for that. No words were spoken, but they didn’t need to be.

“You’re still here, Aria, it’ll be okay. He didn’t cause this, but he can turn it around.”

I was still alive and grateful, I didn’t have a death wish, just wished things had turned out differently. I was paying the price for someone getting behind the wheel drunk.

“It wasn’t fair for you to get hurt due to someone else’s actions.” Mom said gently. It’s okay to grieve, in fact, you should grieve, but don’t give up Aria, don’t let your dreams die.”
