Broken Beginnings:

Chapter Twelve:

I looked around the parking lot as Mom pulled into a handicapped parking spot. I would have been lying if I hadn’t admitted to myself that I was nervous, even fearful due to the fact that the person who had caused all of this was still walking around free.

I thought back to the last time I had been on campus as a student. I had not had to worry about accessibility, wide enough door ways, wheelchair accessibility. I watched as people rushed to class without thought, the way I once had. I wanted to scream to people to slow down, to appreciate what they had because it could all be taken from you so quickly. I knew that because I had lived it.

Mother quickly, effortlessly got my chair out of the back seat, and put it together, allowing me to transfer from the front passenger seat, to my chair. I watched again as everyone seemed to be in a rush.

“Naomi, you are going to do great.” Mom assured me, watching for a few minutes as I made my way down the sidewalk, and to a handicap accessible ramp. I headed through the doors of the admissions building, long enough to double check which direction my next class was in.

I smiled at Mom pulled out promising she would be there to pick me up after one that afternoon, we would go straight to the hospital to help Nadia. I was grateful she was finally strong enough to go…
