Broken Beginnings: Chapter Seven

Chapter Seven:

I grow weary of the fear, of the not knowing. I am not yet ten, and my life is about fear, is about worrying. Mother says we have been forced to grow up before our time, because of a madman, and I fear she is right, and it does not get better. Everyday Jews are suffering more and more, growing sick from hunger, it is not fair, we did nothing wrong, we are simply Jews. Our only crime was being born, and that is enough according to a monster named Hitler.

We are no longer treated like humans, instead we are herded like animals, packed in places we don’t want to be, often praying for our very deaths. We do our best to protect Elizabeth, to shield her, she is my twin, but I am the stronger one, I must protect Elizabeth, we all must.

Hatred like this is not something we could hide from Elizabeth forever. She will one day realize what is happening, and have to face it just as we do, but for now I want to protect her, I want to shield her from the evil’s of this world.

I am going to do my best to protect Elizabeth from the evil that is surrounding us, I want her to be shielded for as long as I can. I know how frightened she will be, how frightened she is. I. cannot show my fear because I must be strong for Elizabeth. Childhood is not something I am allowed to enjoy, none of us our, our childhood has been stolen from us by a…
