Chapter Ten:

Saturday: December.17.1938

Tonight we light the first Hanukkah Candle, and give one another gifts, though I am not sure how that will work this year. I managed to gather some old cloth, and stuffing, in order to make Naomi a doll. I wish I could do more for her, I wish I could buy her a doll with a beautiful dress, but this will have to do.

Mother and Father have managed to get enough rations together, to fix us a special Hanukkah meal, friends have snuck in ingredients as well. At least we can enjoy w good meal, and a little bit of normalcy, something that has not been around since Kristallnacht. It feels good, even having the little things to thank G-d for, the fact that we still have our Father is with us, is a big thing not little, but we cannot know what tomorrow will bring, so we must celebrate the moments we have now.

Ima is humming in the kitchen, happy about having a nice meal to fix, even Abba is in better spirits. He has even played with Naomi and I today, making us happy. Perhaps I am to old to play, but in these times you do not think about these things.

We have a lot to celebrate, but things can change at any moment and many of our friends have had their Father’s, and brothers taken away already, our Grandparents
