Broken Beginnings: Chapter Thirteen
Chapter Thirteen:
Nadia looked puzzled, as she looked around the room, most of her stuff bagged and boxed up, ready to go home with her.
“Nadia you’re going home today.” I reminded her.
She nodded, acknowledging she understood what she was saying.
“Dad?” She looked at her Mom, hopeful. The truth was Andrei and Sasha were having issues long before this all happened.
Sasha said nothing, not wanting to turn a celebration into something sad, and honestly none of us were sure if Nadia was ready to hear about what was happening between her Mom and Dad. I understood her Mom’s need to focus on Nadia and not the fact that her and Andrei were in the process of getting a divorce. Andrei had been avoiding his daughter like the plague. I understood seeing Nadia that way hurt him, but it hurt all of us and we hadn’t abandoned her, we were doing our best to help her through this. It was not something anyone should have to go through alone.
I looked at Nadia, wondering what to say and not to say. I wasn’t about to do anything that might in some way set back her recovery. She was going home and for the moment that was what we needed to focus on. My Mother had made sure Sasha had all of Nadia’s favorite foods ready, maybe in the hopes that would trigger a memory.
