Broken Beginnings: Chapter Twenty:

Chapter Twenty:

“Tiffany are you okay?” I asked. “You are quieter than normal.”

“I guess.” She managed.

“Talk to me Tiffany, I can tell something’s wrong.”

She looked at me, and instantly I knew what was wrong.

“You can’t hear me, can you?” I asked.

“The Cochlear Implant stopped working, I’m struggling through classes, I don’t know if I am going to be able to get through my classes.”

“Is there anything they can do?” I asked, being sure to face Tiffany so she could read my lips.

She shook her head. “I’m not sure if attempting another implant is worth it, it’s not the device, it’s me I guess.”

“There should be resources to help you with classes, extra help, an interpreter, something?” I asked.

“I knew it could happen.” Tiffany said. “But I didn’t prepare myself, I wanted to believe it would always be effective.”

“I’m sorry.” I said, hating that this was happening to Tiffany.

Tiffany nodded, holding on to the handles of my chair as if they were some kind of lifeline. I said nothing, knowing that I needed to allow her to help me to class, not for myself but for her.
