Chapter Two:

My eyes fluttered open, it took me a minute to let everything come into focus. I saw my Mother sitting in a hospital chair, in a room that must have been the ICU, I tried to sit up, but could not the room spinning around me. I felt sick, my Mother acting quickly grabbing towels as I made a mess of myself. Tears streaming down my eyes I mumbled “I’m sorry.”

“You have nothing to be sorry about Naomi, Elizabeth, nothing.” She said, as she cleaned me up.

I didn’t say anything I felt so bad, as I helpless watched my Mom clean up the mess I had just made.

My eyes must have spoke, because as she cleaned me up, and demanded a clean gown she looked at me in the eyes and assured me: “Nadia is going to be okay, and you will too.”

I closed my eyes, in relief, and fell back to sleep, the bedding, and the gown fresh and clean, my Mother had made sure of that. I found myself smiling on the inside.

“Are you feeling okay?” Mom asked, touching my forehead.

“I feel better than I did earlier.” I said still feeling weak. “I’m thirsty.”

“I’ll have someone bring you a seven up.”

I smiled my approval, but within a moment I was frowning. “My legs.” I panicked.
