Broken Beginnings (Revised): Chapter Twenty Eight

Chapter Twenty-Eight:

I woke up to a piercing scream, shaking I sat up in bed, praying that everything was okay. Nadia was awake too, feeling for her cane. “Are you okay?” I asked Nadia.

“That wasn’t me, it was Tiffany.” Nadia said, turning her face to the direction she heard the cries, that had no turned into whimpers in.

I sat up in bed, reached for the wheelchair, to pull it closer to me, and transferred into it. I needed to get to Tiffany, to see if she was okay. I had never heard such a piercing cry, we had been too stunned to cry out like the night everything changed.

Tiffany was sitting at the edge of the cot, crying, looking as if she was lost. I gently taped her shoulder, trying to get her attention without starting her.

She looked at me, turning her head in my direction, tears staining her cheeks, as she tried to get back to herself.

“I’m sorry.” She said finally. “I didn’t mean to scare you. I just woke up, unable to hear anything, and for a moment I forgot.”

“It’s okay, you don’t need to apologize.” I said gently. “As long as your okay.”

“Naomi, I’m scared.”

I nodded, knowing the feeling of being afraid, waking up to your whole world being turned upside down, left for you to…
