Broken Beginnings Rewritten: Chapter Thirteen

Chapter Thirteen:

I stared at the three steps standing before me, I had forgot about these steps, because I really hadn’t had to think about them until now. I couldn’t get up these steps, not without help.

“I’m sorry Naomi, I hadn’t even thought about this.”

“I hadn’t either.” I said.

“We can go home if you want.”

I shook my head, I really wanted to get into the Church.

“We will get you up those steps.” Mom said. Mother was deceptively strong, so I had know doubt that she could do just as she had said.

“Thank you.” I said softly, I felt a little humiliated but not enough to make me want to go home. I wanted to go to church, I wanted to spend time with G-d.

“They really need to build a ramp out here.” Mom said.

I nodded, knowing that my Mother was right. The lack of ramp would be an obstacle for not only me, but anyone with mobility challenges and that was a hard pill to swallow. A house of worship should be opened to all. I had to believe that.

Thankfully Mother was strong enough to get me, wheelchair and all up those three steps, and into the church building. We shared the building with another Christian congregation and I had attended the Christian services on…
