Why is it that so often society looks at those with disabilities in two extremes either perceptually happy or perceptually sad? As if somehow a disability stops us from feeling the in-betweens, they look at us as if we are either to be pitied or put on a pedestal! But like anyone else we experience the in-betweens. But that kind of attitude is not helpful, infact its simply ableist, as if someone having a disability precludes them from feeling the emotions other people do, there are of course conditions that make it hard for people to express their emotions, and show them in the way others do, conditions like Autism, and Asperger’s are amongst those, but that does not mean those people don’t feel what we feel, it’s simply that they have a hard time expressing those emotions.

Disability isn’t one thing, it’s not linear, even people with the same disabilities are effected different. We are all unique, our challenges are unique, and our reactions to those challenges are unique that’s true for anyone with or without a disability.
