Chapter Twenty One:

Wednesday.October.31.2018

It was Halloween, as little girls my best friend and I used to dress up and go trick or treating, often as princesses, but for the past few years we would celebrate by watching scary movies, and staying over at one another’s house, we would switch off where we stayed, but this year was different, we were still in the hospital, so much had already changed. I was in a wheelchair now, paralyzed from mid chest down, and Nadia was suffering from a brain injury. I didn’t know if Nadia could remember the previous Halloween’s or not. I didn’t know how much Nadia could remember, but the way she would try to smile, when I came in the room, gave me the hope that she had some kind of memory of who I was, I had to believe she had some memories of the past.

I would be going home in a few days but I would be spending the next few days in the hospital, and therefore Halloween would be celebrated in the hospital. Mother had brought goodies for both Nadia than I, treats that Nadia could chew and swallow easily. I was glad that Mother had made sure that Nadia was incorporated, I wanted her to feel that she was a part of the celebration as well. I wanted her to understand that we cared about her, and to perhaps be able to remember more, or perhaps she remembered…
