When a Bully Unintentionally Kills

Bullying certainly is not a new concept though with the invention of social media, it has been taken to a new level, but this is a story of bullying that took place way, back when I was in middle school, late 1980’s early 1990’s, yeah I’m that old lol. But this isn’t my story, it’s a story of a young boy I am going to call M, a young boy who like me was around twelve, and another boy I am going to call J, the class bully who seemed to target M.

I can’t remember all the ways J bullied M, but I remember there were times that it would have M n tears. There were racial slurs I’m sure the near fact M was Latina, and J was Caucasian, perhaps for him that was reason enough to bully him.

One day though that bullying was taken to an all new level when J threatened to fight M after school the reasoning behind this I don’t recall, but the consequences I will never forget.

That afternoon M decided to jump the fence behind the school to avoid J, but before he could make it over the fence, he had a massive heart attack, unbeknownst to J, M had a heart condition, and the fear, the adrenaline of jumping over that fence had been too much for his fragile heart.

The family never blamed J for his death that I recall, he hadn’t set out to kill him, no one would expect that, not a twelve year old boy who looks healthy, and I remember after that event J got more quiet.

The Moral of the Story…There are consequences to bullying you are not going to want to pay.
