Chain Reaction

Before 9,11, Virgina Tech, and the War on Terror the students at Columbine were fighting a war . A war that would leave twelve students and one teacher dead.

Rachel Scott was the first person to die that dark April day, but reading her journals, you got a sense that she always knew that her time on earth would be short, and she did everything she could to share her love for Christ with others. She lived her faith not only in words but in actions. There is evidence that says she tried to reach out to her killers months before she was murdered, and all who knew her knew that she was a special soul.

Columbine was only an indication on things to come, but Darrell Scott, Rachel’s Father, refused to let his daughter death be in vein, he speaks out against school violence, and tries to take the message Rachel would want to share across the world. In a book published in 2001 by Thomas Nelson called Chain Reaction Darell talks about his daughters belief.

Rachel is quoted in the book and the website that bares her name as saying

“I have this theory that if one person can go out of their way to show compassion it will start a chain reacion of the same.”

Even years after he death, Rachels story is being told, and others are learning about her faith her beliefs, because a Father refused to let his grief take away the message his daughter would have wanted him to share.
