Music With an Empowering Message

I often write about the lack of disability representation in areas of media, but today I’d like to focus on music that act makes an attempt and often suceeds at a positive message about those with disabilities, these aren’t all happy songs persay, and they may not have been written about a specific disability but they so have a strong message.

Brad Paisley released a song called Hard Life in 2011, The tune was written by Joe Kindregan, a 23-year-old Virginia native who has A-T (ataxia-telangiectasia), a fatal disease that combines symptoms of cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, immune deficiencies and cancer. Joe met Brad back in 2005 at a fundraiser for Team 25, which helps kids facing tremendous health challenges like his. The two sang on stage together at the event and have kept in touch through the years.
