Edge of Ruin

Chapter One:

Something wasn’t right Cheyenne should be home by now. It was close to four o clock. I looked out the window seeing the familiar sight of the school bus, pulling to its stop, but what I did not see was Cheyenne getting off the bus.

I thought for a second maybe Cheyenne had missed the bus, and at any second I would get a call from the school telling me to come and pick up my daughter. My phone did not ring though, instead a text came through. I knew it was not the school, because they never texted if they needed anything they called.

I shuddered thinking about the possibilities, but the text told me something more frightening than I wanted to even think about.

I warned you I would come after her. You made me do this, if you had never made me want to divorce you, then I wouldn’t have to do this, now Cheyenne will pay the price. I am going to kill her, and you are not going to be able to do much about it with a bullet in your back.

I felt as if I had swallowed a boulder. Lance had our daughter, and he would hurt her. I had no doubts about that.
