Let’s Talk About It
The popular YouTube channel 8 passengers’ Ruby Franke was arrested yesterday when her twelve-year-old son jumped out of a window for help. According to reports, both the young man and his younger sister were malnourished, and yes, I understand innocent until proven guilty, but the abuse could be seen by her regular channel viewers. Let me be clear that I was not a regular viewer, and whenever I saw her clips on my feed, I cringed because, even to the casual eye, there was something wrong. All I could think about was Lori Daybell’s case. Thankfully the Franke children survived, unlike two of Loris’ children.
Ruby’s abusive parenting style was broadcast for the world to see, including the time she told her five-year-old daughter she wouldn’t be eating lunch at school that day because she had not wanted to make the lunch herself. That was only one of many events which resulted in at least two of her children becoming malnourished.
Although there are some serious problems within the Mormon Church, the blame cannot be placed solely on them. Abuse does happen within the Church, I have seen it first hand, but what this family did to their poor children is beyond horrific.
