Half Dead They Walked Out (For International Holocaust Remembrance Day)

Half dead

They walked out

Living Skeletons

Emaciated

But they walked

Out,

And so many

Did not

They carry that

With them

A kind of guilt

That can never

Be lifted.

Broken and beaten

They walked out

Frozen in body

And spirit

Life became

Mechanical

Not knowing

What tomorrow

Would bring

For some

Liberation came.

Kindnesses shown

Brought some to

Tears

While others

Eerily stood by

Waiting for death

To come

And for some it

Did

As rich foods

And starvation

Can be a fatal
