Half Dead They Walked Out (For International Holocaust Remembrance Day)
Half dead
They walked out
Living Skeletons
Emaciated
But they walked
Out,
And so many
Did not
They carry that
With them
A kind of guilt
That can never
Be lifted.
Broken and beaten
They walked out
Frozen in body
And spirit
Life became
Mechanical
Not knowing
What tomorrow
Would bring
For some
Liberation came.
Kindnesses shown
Brought some to
Tears
While others
Eerily stood by
Waiting for death
To come
And for some it
Did
As rich foods
And starvation
Can be a fatal
