Fighting Domestic Abuse

The song His Hands, released by Jennifer Nettles in 2014, addresses an all too common issue: abuse of a spouse or partner.

It is estimated that one in three women and one in four men have experienced domestic abuse in some form or another from an intimate partner. It may include slapping, pushing, or shoving.

Approximately one in seven women and one in twenty-five men have been physically abused by their partners. It is frightening and sobering to consider that three women die every day at the hands of their partners.

Jennifer Nettles is not the only country singer to tackle this subject, in 1993 Martina Mcbride released her powerful song Independence Day which speaks of abuse.

Abuse does not only affect the person or persons being physically abuse, but it has an effect on all…
