I Could Have

*I’ve seen the way bitterness can eat at a person, destroy who they are, and though I have faced great challenges in my life. I have choose not to let them turn me bitter. I wrote this poem neatly four years ago as an expression of that!

I could have

Wore the

Pain

Like a breastplate

Letting it harden me

Turning me into something

I was not.

I could have

Turned angry

And bitter

Put a wall

Over my heart

But what kind of life

Would that be?

I could have

Turned

Hateful

Building that

Inward pain

Into something ugly

But that just

Wasn’t me.
