I Hear the Silence
I hear the silence
In the quiet
of empty school houses
And silent playgrounds
Where laughter
And tears
Once mingled.
I hear the silence
In Church bells that no
Longer ring
But I hear too
A hope
That sings
A boundless faith
That draws people
From every corner
Of the world to their knees.
I hear the silence
On empty streets
Where footsteps once echoed
Telling stories with every step.
I hear the silence
But I hear too
The echoes of laughter
And joy
And the courage
Of the heroes
On the frontlines
Risking death
So others may live.
I hear the silence
But I hear too
Echoes of nation
After Nation
Fighting together
For a cure
Of an invisible beast.
