I recently watched a documentary on Henry the 2, he was brutal!

Thanks to his extensive domains in France ( Normandy, Anjou, Brittany, Maine), Henry was the nominal vassal of the French King, but in reality, thanks to his vast lands in France and Britain, Henry was richer and more powerful than his liege lord.
