Chapter Twelve:
Alyssa looked at Anna, h little sister who really dint seem so little any longer. A few weeks ago they had celebrated her tenth birthday. A birthday she might not have seen if the surgeries to repair her heart hadn’t work. Anna still had to be careful, but she was like any other child now, and to most of her friends and classmates the fact she had Down Syndrome did not matter. She was there friend and that was really all that mattered.
“Alyssa, are you okay€?” Anna asked, I could hear the concern in her voice.
I nodded, honestly not remembering what happened. I felt strangely numb, and more than a little confused.
There had been an accident, but I had no idea, where or how.
“I didn’t want you to die Alyssa.” Anna was crying now.
“I’m not going to die.” I said in a voice, that was barely audible. I hoped that this was a promise I could keep.
“You had to have surgery, just like me, only yours wasn’t your heart.”
I said nothing, trying to absorb everything Anna was telling me.
Anna looked at me, with sorrow in her eyes, as she went on explaining. “You were hurt really bad, they had to amputate.” Anna struggled with the new word, and it’s meaning. “They had to take…
