In An Instant, Part Two (Fiction)
You wake up, days later to strange sounds and smells, you had been drifting in and out of consciousness for a few days, but you don’t remember much, perhaps that’s a blessing, but you do remember the children you were in charge of, your seventh grade classroom and that broken man child walking into the classroom, you look around wide eyed, are the kids okay?
Your sister and niece are in the room with you, you have no memory of them getting there, but you are glad they did.
“You were hurt the worst, but you saved the kids Elaina, they are alive because of you. Two children were hospitalized, one for a gunshot wound to the leg, another was hit in the elbow, but they are both expected to make a full recovery.”
You nod, relieved that the children are okay. You protected them, in a classroom of twenty five, only two children were hurt, and no one was killed, that was a God thing for sure, you know that as well as you know your name.
You want to know the extent of your injuries, the fact you can feel nothing below the chest, tells you something is wrong, but you don’t want to admit that to yourself.
Your sister sees the tears in your eyes, and the fear, and gently places a hand on your shoulder, as if to assure you everything is going to be okay. You want to believe her, but you know your…
