It Reminds Me Of When
Music and Writing

Music and writing go hand in hand in my opinion. Music is a beautiful combination of sound and words, which is why when I’m writing a novel, I’m drawn to music that elicits emotion, whether it’s happy or sad. As there are songs that take us to a certain time and place, there are also songs that help me to paint vivid pictures with words, both in fiction and nonfiction.
To evoke an emotion or a memory in my writing, I turn to songs like The Song Remembers When or Time in a Bottle, both beautiful songs in their own right. The songs evoke strong emotions in me. Time in a Bottle takes me back to the days of my youth, the days that may seem mundane to some, and The Song Remembers When paints a picture of those moments that forever marked me as who I am today. These songs allow me to experience what I was experiencing at the time, as well.
