Jesus Christ: More Than A Name
Can you imagine standing watching as our Savior was Crucified? The children were asked how that would make them feel and of course they said it made them sad.
But he did it for us, every nail, hammered into flesh and bone, every cry, every insult he endured that for us. Did he have to, no of course not, he did it for our sins and transgressions, and he spent three days in hell for us. Can you imagine? I don’t even want to think about it, but some don’t realize the power of the name.
Jesus is not meant to be a swear word, when we cry out Jesus Christ, we need to do so in prayer and supplication. As his followers, all who loved him cried out Jesus Christ, as they watched in horror as they crucified our Savior, they did not use the name as a curse, but they called out in pain, the King was being crucified, their King, Our King, and he was doing so, so that we had a chance to live with him in eternity.
And yet many have turned that sacred name into a curse word, something to shout out in anger.
Can you imagine how that must make Christ feel, and those who stood before him with tear stained cheeks, as they drove those nails into flesh and bone? They must have felt his pain! And I imagine each time his word is thrown around in a careless, angry fashion, not in reverence but in hate the pain must be felt again and again.
