A Rant of Sorts

When I logged into Facebook earlier, to check on a few writers I know who are in the path of Hurricane Milton, I read a comment that left me dumbfounded: “The hurricanes on the east are artificial intelligence generated.” While it was ridiculous and distasteful, it also made me sad, because this person is discounting the pain and destruction that have occurred, as well as the lives that have been lost in Helene and the potential lives lost in Milton.

When we talk about real lives affected and real lives lost, conspiracy theories like this one cause more harm. No matter what your politics are, hurricanes aren’t political, and now is the time to show our humanity. So perhaps instead of running mouths, or acting like keyboard warriors, it would be better for us to show support in better ways, we all have something to offer, even if its only a prayer.

The comment I read frustrated me, but I decided to use it to shed light on the situation, and to remind others that there are real lives affected by the hurricanes, and real people who have lost loved ones.

Of course we are seeing the good in humanity, the people who are giving financially, but in other ways too.
