Lessons in Laughter (Summer of O2)
I wrote about some of the more profound moments the summer that changed my life in so many ways, the summer that we cried and on many occassions laughed until we cried, that summer also taught me to take the time to look at the world through a Child’s eyes, and I learned that sometimes all you need is a good laugh, to turn the day around.
The first incident I so clearly remember is my (former) friends young son pulling the fire alarm in Mimmi’s apartment she lived in a wheelchair accessible apartment and everything was at the level of a curious almost two year old boy, what we did not expect was the firefighters to come out in full gear, in the year following 9'll there were extra precautions to take, and nothing was done lightly, but to have everyone show up in full gear, seemed like a plot for some movie, I didn’t laugh at that moment, as Mimmi pulled up to a scene she couldn’t figure out, until I glanced in the direction of a wide eyed toddler, she started to laugh and said, all you girls had to do was pull the cord again, that would have told them it was a false alarm, and soon I was laughing too.
And I lauged as we role played the Golden Girls, or as Mimmi tried to teach me the Macquerena. “Girlie if I can do it with only a partial foot, you can with two.” But soon we fell to the floor in fits of laughter, the three of us, and soon the little boys not so…
