“I can’t believe this is my life now.” Anna-leis said, laying next to Clarence. He smelled of Old Spice Cologne and the Bolognese sauce they had made together, both scents she loved, both scents that spoke to her of love.
It was funny how smells could evoke such strong emotions.
“It is, and you deserve this, and so much more.” Clarence said, encircling his hands with hers. Even the feel of his skin, evoked a powerful emotion, one that she could not exactly put into words.
Anna-leis nodded, wanting to believe his words, trying to believe him, but it was hard when you spent an entire childhood listening to how you weren’t worth it. Listening to that for years had done some serious damage to her self esteem. She felt better about herself with the help of the Lord first and foremost, as well as Clarence, the girls and her new family, Clarence’s family, but she had a long way to go before she felt good about herself.
Clarence got angry thinking about the damage Anna-leis parents had caused her, the way they had entirely dismissed her when she had called to tell him, she’d nearly lost her life, and had lost both of her legs.
