“I dreamed I was a child, but this time it was different. I had the childhood I could only have imagined, the parents who loved me without condition.”

Clarence nodded, feeling heartbroken at the thought that her happy childhood was only a dream. When things got tough, she did not have that safety net.

I’m sorry that a happy childhood was only a dream. As Clarence squeezed Anna-leis squeezed Anna-Leis he smiled kindly.

“I have everything I could have ever dreamed of, and more.” Anna-leis said, gazing at Clarence, his eyes filled with passion and love. Counting herself blessed, she had no idea what she had done to deserve Clarence.

“No child deserves to be treated the way your parents treated you. You deserved a better childhood.”

“Now that I know that, you helped me see it, but as a little girl, I thought that it was something I did.”

“Sweetheart, I am sorry you’ve ever felt this way. It wasn’t fair, no one deserves that.”

Anna-leis nodded, holding back tears without knowing why. Often, her emotions came without warning, and she had to remind herself that she was safe, she no longer had to bury her feelings.
