Like Letters Written in the Sand Part Seven
There were days Anna-leis struggled, trying to make sense of it all, frustrated over what happened. Some nights she woke up with such severe phantom pains, it was as if her legs that were no longer there were in a vice, leaving her in pain, into the following day and through it all Clarence would be there, holding Anna-Leis hand through the pain, it broke his heart that he couldn’t take the pain from her. But more heartbreaking than the physical pain, was the pain she felt deep within. Anna-leis didn’t give herself time to grieve, Clarence knew that and so did she.
On the days that were the hardest Anna-leis would try to push Clarence away, because she hated the way she felt so weak and vulnerable, but it never worked. He was there when she needed someone to lean on, and she was thankful.
“I don’t know why you want to marry me, I’m broken.”
Clarence would gently put his fingers on her chin, so she’d be facing him. “Anna-leis, you aren’t broken, you are beautiful. I wish you could see that.
“Somebody got behind the wheel drunk, and I woke up in a hospital bed a week and a half later to find out, I lost both my legs above the knees, because they were both so damaged, and I ended up with sepsis.”
