Anna-leis was never made to feel like she was disabled, that she was in any way broken, because Clarence loved her unconditionally, the way he fought for her, the way he loved her despite all the highs and lows. Without his loving care, she could not have survived the last year and a half. Through grief, denial, phantom pain, the adoption process, and so much more, he had been there. God had worked a miracle in their favor, he had worked a miracle not only for them but also for the girls.

Clarence was the one who encouraged Anna-leis to see what she was capable of, not what she was not, and he reminded her of all he had, not all that she had lost. Through him, she was able to see the positive aspects of her life, such as Jesus, Clarence, their daughters, the beautiful home they had built together, and the careers they had built.

He had helped her overcome her childhood trauma and encouraged her to seek help for the scars that ran deep, scars that were far more painful than the amputations.

“I could not accomplish this on my own.” Anna-leis said, looking at Clarence’s dancing eyes. “I would not be able to be this strong without you.”
