“It is no secret that I am a little nervous about going home today. What if I am not prepared?” Her eyes were filled with pleading as she looked at Clarence. Although he was not able to provide her with all the answers, he could provide her with the encouragement that she needed.

“Anna-leis, if you were not ready, they would not allow you to go home.” Clarence gently squeezed her hand. She was grateful not to be alone, but she would have to face being alone tonight, and this scared her. Clarence and she had not yet been married, and they had agreed that they would not live together until they were married. However, being alone was a difficult concept for her.

She wrapped a blanket, around herself, self-conscious about the amputations, about the way she thought she looked. But all Clarence saw was Anna-leis radiant beauty.

Why was she blind to her own beauty?

“Anna-leis, you are the most beautiful and strongest woman I know, and the one I intend to marry. “I know you can handle this.” Clarence kissed her on the top of her head as he helped her pack up her belongings. He would be driving her home, not an Uber after what she had gone through. It wasn’t worth risking infection for her.
