Anna-leis was grateful to be alive, and realized that the crash that had nearly killed her, that had taken her legs, had given her something far greater. She had realized that she loved Clarence and that he loved her. He had shown her time and time again that he was worthy of her love, but it had taken a near tragedy to change her mind. As hard as it was, as much as she grieved over the price the drunk driver had forced her to pay, Clarence knew that life without him would be an unbearable experience. Without Clarence, she would not be preparing to become a Mother to twin girls, they would not be signing adoption papers, and she would not be pursuing a career. If Clarence did not encourage her, she would probably still be hiding away, struggling with the way she believed she looked.

Everyday Clarence would wake up, smiling at Anna-leis, reminding her how beautiful she was, allowing her to forget for a time about the scars that marked both the inside and outside, the scars you could not see, the scars that cut soul deep, were the hardest to heal, and even more difficult to cope with amputated limbs and surgical scars. The scars that her parents had caused, were far more damaging than that of the drunk driver who nearly killed her, since it was as if her parents had slowly tried to kill her spirit, and they had very nearly done so, but with…
