Being able to stand face to face with Clarence was something Anna-leis would never take for granted. Just standing was a process that was far from easy when you were figuring out how to navigate life as a double ampUte, and how to incorporate that into everyday life and life as a parent, if everything worked out with the adoption and she was believing it was going too.
“You don’t realize the things you take for granted, until everything changes.” Anna-leis looked at Clarence. “I guess it kind of puts things into perspective, it definitely opened my eyes to the way some people treat those with disabilities.”
“It’s not fair.” Clarence agreed. “No one deserves to be treated like a second class citizen.”
“No, they don’t.” Anna-leis agreed. “Having to work three times harder to prove yourself gets old after awhile.”
Clarence had seen the way people treated Anna-leis, the stares, the whispers of pity, and the downright rude comments, but to her credit she didn’t react, she was not going to fuel any fires, but Clarence could see the pain in her eyes. She was good at hiding her emotions from others, but not from Clarence, he knew her to well for that, he could read pain or hurt in Anna-leis eyes, and it happened far more than he would like it too. Anna-leis knew that what happened to her…
