Targeted?

*Wrote this a decade ago while caring for my younger niece….

Prologue:

There was little time for me to react when the car appeared out of nowhere. It came at me suddenly, intentionally running me off the road. With my hands gripping the steering wheel and my feet on the brakes, I was unable to stop in time. My little red sedan was wrapped around a tree a second later, and I was drifting in and out of consciousness.

As I closed my eyes, I saw Kayla Faith, my mirror image, my twin sister and one of the main reasons I knew I couldn’t go out like this!

Writing for Young Adults is one of my passions, and I taught Creative Writing to Middle Schoolers. There are no stories that would make me a target, just inspirational ones! At least nothing that I could think of.

Kayla worked in Sales, but neither of us was doing anything that would leave us targets, yet here I was, drifting in and out of consciousness, praying that I would survive.

The way I hit that tree did not cause me the type of pain I expected. Suddenly, I heard sirens in the distance, someone had called for help, a person I probably owed my life to.
