On Desert Sand: Chapter Five

Chapter Five:

“They will be here in a few minutes.” Kristina said looking at me. “Are you ready to see our family?”

“I am.” I said. “It feels like a lifetime ago that I saw them last.”

“Because so much has happened since then.” Kristina said gently. “I know this is hard, but I am here for you,”

“I want to get out of this bed. Will you let someone know.”

“Are you sure, I don’t want you overdoing it.”

“Kristina, I just want to sit up in a chair for awhile. I know I am not going to be running any races.”

“That’s not what I meant Adriana. It just seemed to take a lot out of you earlier. But I will let them know.”

“Thank you.” I said calming my voice down. I don’t know why I felt it would be better if I was sitting up. Maybe it would be easier to pretend everything was okay. But the fact was not being able to move any of my limbs was a big clue that something was wrong, very wrong, and the doctors words still

echoed in my ears.

Quadriplegic, all four limbs were affected. I couldn’t voluntarily move my arms, or my legs. I hated how dependent that left me. I would get stronger in time and learn to do things a little differently, at least I prayed I would, but this was hard. It was harder than…
