Only As Broken-Chapter One (Revised)

Chapter One:

While I soar higher and higher, I’m struck by the wind’s tickle, the world below appears tiny, and people appear like tiny ants.

‘Katarina, it’s time for you to wake up.“ Ana stands over my bed, gently touching my shoulder. “School starts back today.”

In spite of the fact that I want to turn around and go to sleep, I know this cannot be put off.

I’m more than a little nervous, not because Middle School is hard enough, but because it’s my first time back since the accident, if you can call plowing into a parked car an accident.

Using my arms, I pulled myself to a seated position. I was still groggy, not knowing what to expect today. There are some Middle School students who are notoriously mean, even bullies.

“Everything is going to be okay.” Ana told me as I slowly dressed. The things I once took for granted took more effort now, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t accomplish them.

My mother wasn’t home again; she had gone to work early once again, something she had been doing frequently since our world changed. There are some things that even a lot of money cannot change, so I knew it wasn’t about needing money.
