Chapter One:

The wind tickles me as I soar higher and higher, the world below looks tiny, people look like they are tiny little ants from this high up.

“Katarina it’s time to wake up.” My older sister Ana is standing over my bed, gently touching my shoulder. “School starts back up today.”

I want to turn my head back towards the wall, and go to sleep, but as hard as it is I know this can’t wait.

I’m more than a little nervous not about starting Middle School though that’s hard enough, but it’s the first time back since the accident, if you can call someone driving Three Sheets to the Wind plowing into a car parked accidental.

I pulled myself to a seated position using my arms, a skill I had recently begun to master. I was still groggy not certain what today would bring. Some Middle School kids could be notoriously mean, even bullies.

“It’s going to be okay.” Ana said, as I slowly got dressed. Things I once took for granted took more effort now, but it didn’t mean I couldn’t do them.

Mother wasn’t home again, she had left for work early again, something she had been doing a lot since our world changed. I knew it wasn’t that she needed the money, looking around could prove that was a lie, but there are somethings not even a lot of money…
