Pity; It’s Not A Life Preserve, It’s an Anchor

--

Disabled,

Why the

Negative

Connotation,

Why the automatic

Pity.

Pity is not

A life preserver

It’s an anchor

Designed to

Sink

Unnecessary

And unwanted.

Disabled,

It’s not

A dirty

Word to spit

Out

As if it

Is meant

To leave

A disgusting

Taste in

Your mouth,

It is not one

Definition

It’s many.

Before you

See someone

Who happens

To do things

A little differently

And your first

Inclination

Is to offer

Them pity

Remember

You aren’t giving

Them a lifeline

But an anchor.
