Anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and other forms of mental illness often change people in ways that can’t just be “undone.” As long as a person is functioning well and meeting their goals of what they want to get out of life, it isn’t fair to push them beyond where they are willing/able to go. When an individual is pushed too hard without being listened to or feeling ready to take on change, this breeds distrust. The individual will also end up feeling feel overwhelmed and, as a result, just try to “escape” the situation/person that causes the added stress. This avoidance will erode the relationship and ultimately, both parties will suffer.
