Margie Willis Thanks for the inspiration
You think you know me, that I don’t see those looks of pity. I do believe me, and I don’t need them. I am happy, I am whole even if you refuse to see it.
I’m not that poor woman in a wheelchair, being poor has nothing to do with anything, I am neither poor nor am I rich, what I am is happy and fulfilled.
I live my life as an individual, not as a boxed in definition of someone I should be. That’s not who I am, and I am not someone you need to pity.
In fact I pity you, the way you wear ignorance like a cloak.
I climb mountains, I enter races, I bike and sky, so stop putting your limitations on me. I’m not going to bow down to someone’s pity, a stranger who doesn’t even know me.
Instead I’ll keep defying expectations, surprising society. I’m going to keep living my dreams, not the torn version of dreams society has for me.
You may look at me and see limitations, but what I see is ability. Ability to beat the odds, defy expectations or whatever cliche you prefer.
