Sapphire’s Slip-Up Chapters Two, Three
Chapter Two:
O.T came in, I had to learn to sit in a chair, to do the most basic of things over again. It was difficult when nothing below your shoulders functioned as it should.
I struggled, doing the simplest things, trying to push a therapy ball. I couldn’t grasp it, but I had some movement, because I had some function in my shoulder, but it wasn’t much! It took me a great deal of effort, just to move the ball a few inches.
I couldn’t help but wonder if I would ever get any of the independence I has before.
The little tasks, they took a lot out of me, things that a little child could do, I couldn’t, and it was hard, especially knowing that it wasn’t only hurting me but my parents as well, and the little sister who I had not been able to see for a few weeks now, now that I was out of the ICU, Ruby, had demanded that she be allowed to visit. She was ten, and we were close, but it was going to be hard having to explain to her the reality of my situation. I had my doubts that my parents had told her everything, they were in a sort of denial.
I knew that I couldn’t lie to Ruby, I wasn’t going to scare her, but she would figure out the reality of my situation. She would figure it out, and it would be better for me to just tell her what was happening, and when she was older I would do everything in my power to make sure my little sister did not make the same mistakes that I made.
