Healing and Hope
Chapter Fifty:
A few days after I sent the letter forgiving the man who had killed my parents and almost killed me, the phone rang again. Though he did not utter a word, I knew it was him from his heavy breathing. Despite his attempts to scare me, I was not going to be intimidated.
“I forgive you,” I said. “I will no longer hold onto the anchor of unforgiveness. “I just pray you will change your ways and turn your heart around.”
Instead of saying anything, nor even offering a veiled threat as he usually would, he simply hung up. While I was fine with that, I found myself praying he would take my words to heart.
“It took courage to do that.” Deliah said as she set the table for dinner. The aroma of roasted chicken, steamed vegetables, and warm bread made me realize I was hungry.
“I’m not sure about that.” I said. “I can’t carry the weight of unforgiveness with me for the rest of my life.”
“Tracy, it still required courage, that cannot be denied. He killed our parents and came close to killing you. I know only God could give you the courage to forgive.”
