Chapter Eight:

While I loved my sister’s home and appreciated her gestures, I was not used to being dependent on others. Although I was getting stronger, I still had my limitations. A stranger with a gun had left me with scars, both physical and deeper than anyone can see. I tried not to let him do any more damage than he already had. One piece at a time, I needed to reclaim my life.

The fresh air I found when I was sitting on Tracey’s Porch was refreshing, after being essentially locked up in the hospital due to the pandemic, but my sister lived just outside of town where there weren’t a lot of people, so I could get fresh air without worrying about catching a virus, which was killing thousands of people each day.

As for being out of the hospital, that by itself did me good. It wasn’t going to be easy. While I had obstacles to overcome, the destination was definitely worth it. I thanked the Lord every day, since I didn’t have to take this journey alone, I had my sister, and most importantly, I had my faith.

“Are you all right?” Deliah asked me, making me realize I had been outside for much longer than I expected. Just after lunch, I went outside to get some fresh air, and now the sun was setting.
