Chapter Forty:

It Takes Faith

We have survived the past few years, the last few months only with faith. It was God we both turned to when we heard strange sounds in the night that left us trembling. As much as he had taken from us, the monster could not take our faith.

Despite this, there were still those times when Delilah and I shivered in fear, wondering what those noises were in the night. But our faith was still there, shaken by all that had happened, but intact. That was a blessing to me, since I didn’t want to go through this alone.

It had been a tough time, but thankfully I wasn’t alone; the Lord helped me through it even when I felt alone. During the months I spent in the hospital alone, facing a spinal cord injury in the middle of a pandemic, and before that, caring for my sixteen year old sister after our parents died.

The monster, the man, had tried to take everything from us, but he couldn’t. Despite stealing the lives we once knew, he was unable to take our relationship with Christ, nor could he take the bond my sister and I shared. Both of us refused to allow him to.
