Chapter Forty Five:

He haunted me as hard as I tried to shake him, because he was always there, but today was especially hard, since my parents would have been celebrating their 30-year anniversary if this monster hadn’t killed them!

The weight of our grief could be felt in the air, it was as if my sister and I were running on autopilot! Every strange noise, every shadow seemed to be out to frighten us, he was in prison, but the mind games had not ended!

Emotions often hit you when you least expect them in grief. While out having fun, you might see a family sitting together talking to one another, and realize that we won’t be experiencing that on this side of heaven!

”Trace, are you alright?“ Delilah asked, her concern evident in both her voice and face.

I shook my head. I wasn’t okay, not at the moment, the weight of the grief was heavy.

“I regret so many things about the day our parents went missing. I wish I could have stopped this, I wish I hadn’t spent years believing they had just walked away. It should have been obvious that something wasn’t right.”

“We are both guilty, Trace, but we can’t live in the what-ifs.”
