Chapter Forty Three:

The fear and terror of knowing a madman was after us made us feel as though we lived in the shadows; we both bore the physical scars, but also the scars we could not see, the scars left by the knowledge that our parents had been killed by a serial killer. As the world battled a Pandemic, we were battling our own hell on Earth, watching events unfold on a television screen, but at least we had answers.

While they hadn’t left us, they had done everything in their power to protect us, and in doing so, they had been killed.

While living with the scars was hard, our faith continued to show us that we were not alone, despite the pain.

But we were both growing tired, tired of the fear of a late night threatening phone call or something worse, someomelurking outside in the shadows, something that had seriously made Delilah think about leaving her dream home, but I had no doubt he would find us no matter where we went.

“I don’t know how much more either of us can take.” My eyes were fixed on the phone, fearing the sound of it ringing. It was getting ridiculous, but that’s what he wanted, to make us afraid, to play these mind games from behind maximum security bars.
