Chapter Nine:

There was a summer storm moving in outside my window, unusual but not unheard of, but the turmoil of the last call I had received was stronger than any storm. Despite being behind bars, he had access to me for the first time, but it wasn’t the last time.

Deliah has grown even more worried about me since the phone calls began. My recovery was challenging enough, but dealing with the man who had attempted to kill me made things ten times harder. Even though he was behind bars, it seemed that even authorities couldn’t keep him away from me.

“He’s going to be caught.” reassured Deliah. However, he hadn’t been caught yet. My life would be easier if he stopped, so that I could figure my life out without that shadow lurking, the shadow of a man who had tried to destroy me. He was playing mind games with me now, and I couldn’t allow him to see that I was reacting, because that’s exactly what he wanted.

My hope is that it will happen sooner rather than later.” I replied. “I’m tired of pretending to be okay when I’m not. I’ll be okay, but I’m not there.” I looked at Deliah with exhausted eyes.

“Trace, it’s okay to not be okay, but you can’t give him the satisfaction of knowing.”I only wanted one thing: And that was for him to leave me alone.
